The Diocese of Charleston recognizes the mandate to preach the Gospel to all people. The Diocese of Charleston recognizes the mandate to preach the Gospel to all people.
We are called to serve the poor, the forgotten, and the homeless both here in South Carolina, as well as other places in the world. We at the Diocese of Charleston look for opportunities where Catholics and others interested in our mission will collaborate with us in our ministry. We believe that when we answer the call to serve the poor, our own faith is deepened and we ourselves encounter Christ in a more meaningful way in our lives.
To do so, in 2010 the Diocese of Charleston established the International Ministries Department
under the Secretariat for Social Ministries. Volunteers are given the opportunity to participate in medical missions and/or the children’s sponsorship program or Project San Pedro. For more information, click the appropriate link on this page.
Currently, the diocese will be hosting medical mission trips to San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala. We work with the Sisters of Bethany and the local Catholic diocese there. The dates for the medical mission trips are:
- February 8-15
- September 20- 27
- March 6-13
- September 18- 25
Doctors, nurses, dentists, ophthalmologists/optometrists, interpreters and others are needed! These trips not only provide much-needed health care for Guatemalans, but participants find their own experience to be life changing.
