SUMMARY: The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction is responsible for managing and coordinating the curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development in the schools and programs across the Diocese of Charleston.

General
  • Responsible for strategic planning and implementation of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development PK-12 to maintain systemic consistency of curriculum and instruction
  • Work with the office of Catechesis and Faith Formation to update the Diocesan Religion Curriculum evaluation tool
  • Develop and manages the budget for curriculum and professional development programs and assessment PK-12
  • Develops and provides ongoing coordination of Diocesan plans for professional development in conjunction with the school coordinators and principals, including developing a handbook of opportunities, providing resources and documents, PK-12
  • Develops professional opportunities for leadership development in an effort to enhance development of administrators
  • Coordinates the Diocese new teacher induction and mentoring programs
  • Develops/identifies assessment protocols and tools for all subjects.  Analyzes, synthesizes and distributes information and data related to MAP administration and retesting
  • Supports the principals and teaching staff in correlating diocesan-mandated testing to daily/annual instruction
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration, both internally and in the community, regarding the goals, programs, and initiatives related to curriculum and instruction, professional development, assessment, education reform, and program evaluation
  • Provides direction for the improvement of student achievement diocesan-wide; develops, organizes and implements models of assistance for schools with lower student achievement

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
  • Master’s degree in Education; Doctorate degree preferred.  Previous teaching experience and progressively responsible experience in curriculum and standards

  • Knowledge of the philosophies, principles, and practices in curriculum standards/guidelines; current literature, trends, and developments in the fields of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development

    Expert Witness (Court Expert) PT Temporary, Charleston

    Part-time 20 hrs/wk position to serve primarily in the process of marriage nullity cases, by providing psychological assessment and/or report to the judges. Responsibilities include receiving testimony, interviewing witnesses, and using information to compile reports and assessments. Strong computer and writing skills required.     Diocese of Charleston (Hispanic Faith Formation Supervisor)

    Key Responsibilities

    A full-time Hispanic Ministry coordinator will be expected to assist with planning, research, and write three year curriculum for the school of Faith and adjunct instructors in Spanish using Church documents and Sacred Scripture. The coordinator is also expected to support the activities of the Director of Hispanic Ministry in advertising classes, registration, and record-keeping of students.

      Assist the Director with the following activities as assigned:
    • Planning, researching, writing adult faith formation curriculum and supporting materials in Spanish according to a sequential three year plan.
    • Teaching adult faith formation classes in Spanish at a variety of sites throughout the diocese. Although most classes are at night, some may be during regular business hours and on weekends.
    • Correspond and communicate with prospective and enrolled students by email and phone.
    • Collect registration data and payments from students, and keep careful enrollment and payment records.
    • Collaborate with pastors and with other diocesan offices in order to facilitate effective planning and use of diocesan resources.
    • Support diocesan projects as assigned.

      Required Skills and Knowledge
    • Display excellent teaching methods and have knowledge of catechetical processes, and ecclesial documents.
    • Able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Sacred Scripture and Catholic doctrine and possesses an enthusiastic love for the Church.
    • Team worker, able to develop materials that be used by adjunct instructors.
    • Ability to work under supervision, and to display ongoing commitment to self-development and education in both theological understanding and teaching methods.
    • Ability to organize projects from general instructions.
    Education
    Requirements: Masters in Theology, Catechesis or equivalent preferred
